Marie and I bought a few t-shirts and some prints from El Rey (aka James Barnett), a bad-ass (yet super-nice) artist living in San Francisco. We liked our stuff so much we took some photos and sent them along. As of this writing, we’re right on the homepage of his blog. In addition, I sent […]

Deerhoof Comes To Town

I bought my tickets in March because I didn’t want to miss the show. Some of my noise-rock heros came to town last night for a show at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.
There’s something really cool about the artists you like actually being accessible. Before the show I just went up to the […]

Finally Got My Monkey Back
Thu, May 12 2005 @ 12:05 am - 3 years, 3 months ago
Took a while longer to port my monkey thang into a Wordpress 1.5 theme than I thought it might. The biggest issue (for me, because I think they’re just so freaking cool) is that the drop-down comments broke. I looked through the Wordpress forums, pored over scriptygoddess.com, and came up empty. Anyway, to make a […]

Sorry for this being off topic but I can’t find an e mail link here.
Just read your post about moving to Wordpress. Looks like you made the switch. I’m a Typepad user currently & growing increasingly tired of its limitations. I’m considering moving to either MT or Wordpress.
I’ve got down pretty well much of the technical stuff I need to know to run a TP blog, but I have no php skills to speak of. How difficult would it be to set up wordpress, migrate my TP posts to it & convert my TP templates (a few of which are slightly customized) to Wordpress?
Any thoughts you have on the MT vs. Wordpress comparison would be gratefull appreciated.

RIchard, I am going to add something to my site explaining what my email address is because you’re not the only one who has had trouble figuring that out.
As far as the migration to WordPress - I would argue that for the ‘casual’ user who doesn’t have much knowledge of PHP it is fantastic. There are literally hundreds of plug-ins written by a very supportive community. And with the new version 1.5, you can easily ’skin’ or theme your blog to match your style. Customization is not difficult - my pages are pretty customized (granted some are still ‘not correct’, but hey, there’s only 24 hours in a day) and it was not difficult to implement. I would suggest finding a skin that resembles something you’d like to end up with and modifying each section (header, sidebar, footer, etc.) to fit your needs. The page setup in WP 1.5 is very easy to understand.
WordPress also has the famous 5-minute install, which in my experience works as advertised.
As far as transferring your existing posts, I don’t think I can speak with any authority about that. There seem to be a few posts on the subject on the WordPress forums. Try this post as a starting point. Good luck! By the way, cute dog.

Ryan, I wrote a script for Recent Tunes (in case no one else got around to it) I just yesterday saw your comment, so if you want it, use it… otherwise, throw it to the monkeys..
